Something about Alka Ajith..

Alka Ajith is a child singer daughter of Ajith a professional singer and keyboard player.

At the age when infants need lullabies to go to sleep, Alka was already lisping songs to entertain her parents. At 7 years of age, Alka Ajith had already achieved distinctions like singing in 10 languages, 500 plus stage performances, UNESCO gold medal, Rotary International award, etc.

Alka, who debuted on stage at the age of 2½ years, is a hit with the audiences of ‘ganamelas’, where she sings from her repertoire of 3000 songs. Alka has a family tradition of music. Her grandfather was a noted singer. Ajith’s brother Manoj is a guitarist with Yesudas’s troupe. Another uncle of her, Sudhir, is a member of the military orchestra.

Her debut on August 15, 1999 at I.M.A Hall, Thalassery happened at a time when her father left R.R.Orchestra at Bangalore and started Sangeet Sagar at Thalassery. Now young Alka is the star singer in the Sangeet Sagar troupe. Although the troupe has other singers, the 15-song effort of Alka is the key attraction at their programmes.

A fan of noted playback singer K. S. Chitra, Alka has already brought out 6 audio cassettes and has found her name included in the Limca Book of Indian Records.

A debut album of songs rendered by this 10-year-old singer Alka Ajith, titled ‘Chakkaramuthu,’ was released in Kannur on January 30,2008. Alka Ajith, daughter of M.P. Ajith Kumar, drew the attention of music lovers when she started singing at the age of three. Mr. Kumar said that she bagged an international UNESCO award when she was six.

She has sung over 6,000 songs in 11 languages over the last few years. He also said that his daughter could learn by rote songs in any language. She has sung in English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Urdu, he said.

In the recently released album, Alka Ajith lends her voice to songs written by C. Devaraj, Bharanikkavu Shivakumar and C.H. Rajan. The lyrics were given music by K. Saju Thalassery.

She is currently contesting in Star Vijay's Airtel Super Singer Junior 2009.

Small wonder

When others are planning to have fun this summer, Alka is preparing for her concerts. Alka Ajith is in Standard II, of Holy Family English Medium School, Thalassery. She has not completed seven years. But she has sung more than 5,000 songs, can sing in 11 languages and has given more than 500 stage programmes all over India.

In February, this year, Alka performed for the Guinness Record of `Youngest Musician in Asia', at Muthalakkodam, Thodupuzha. The function was organised by Muthalakkodam Jaycees and World Wonders Web, which is an international miracle performers association.

Alka gave her first public performance when she was two and a half years old. She sang the Hindi super hit "Soldier ... ... Soldier... ". The programme was organised to remember Kargil heroes. When she was four she cut her first audio album, "I love my India". The album had eight patriotic songs. Besides this album, she also has audiocassettes to her credit. Recently she has sung songs in Chinese, French and Arabic. But she likes to sing Malayalam songs best.

Alka, daughter of M.P. Ajith Kumar and K. Sajitha, of Mandala Parambath, Kavumbhagam, Thalassery, comes from a family of musicians. Ajith Kumar is a professional musician and organist. He now runs Alka's Orchestra, `Sangeeth Sagar'. Ajith Kumar is not only Alka's inspiration but her guru too. "We are proud of Alka," says P. Chandran, Principal, Holy Family.

Alka entered the Limca Book of World Records in 2003. She has won many awards including Bharatheeya Gourav Puraskar, New Delhi in 2003, Sauparnika Theeram Mini Screen Award in 2004, Thalassery Drishya Kala's A. T. Ummer Award in 2004, International UNESCO Club of Repalle (A.P) award and Gold Medal in 2001 and the Rotary International achievement award and gold medal in 2002.

Most of Alka's concerts are held during holidays and the vacation. Her father composes all her songs. Her next project is an album on pop songs and performances in the Gulf countries and the U.S..

  2. Alka has immense talent and has proved to be able to sing any style! Especially her moving perfprmance with the song Sowkiyama.... She will win the Airtel Super Singer title. She deserves it totally

  3. How can Alka be allowed to compete with other singers, they are amateurs who have sung probably only in their schools, this is total injustice to the other singers, especially as Priyanka who is an amateur, is much better and expressive than Alka and was considred a threat to Alka by Chitra Chechi and eliminated giving a flimsy reason.Alka has bagged so many awards, why is she greedy for this award, she should graciously give way for the other contestants.Or is the reason that Chitra who was promoted by Jesudas is promoting Alka as her brother is a guitarist with Jesudas troup.Shame how these MALLUS promote their own people after having been hailed as good singers and doing better in their careers, especially after we, the stupid tamilians gave them all the praises and position here in TAmilnadu. But Vijay TV should not allow this to happen as THIS SUPER SINGER JUNIOR IS FOR A TAMIZHAGATHIN CHELLA KURAL THEDAL NOT KERALATHIN CHELLA KURAL THEDAL AND ALKA AND ROSHAN SHOULD NOT BE HERE AS THEY ARE NOT RESIDENTS OF TAMILNADU.IF IN TAMILNADU, TAMILIANS ARE NOT RECOGNISED,WHERE ELSE WILL THEY BE RECOGNISED?

  4. Well said Darshini. This is only for amateurs. Priyanka deserves a spot in the finals. However, this being a show-biz, as she lacks charisma compared to others, she has been kicked out. Srikanth is a joke, he should be in some other category.

  5. @Darshini : Orae sirippa varudhu unnoda comment a paartha. Its totally absurd. You say that mallus are trying to promote their people and that only tamilians should be allowed!!! Why? Are you trying to promote our people?? huh??? When are people like you gonna change? Now I understand why there is so much reservations in anything related to government positions :)

And reagarding the elimination of Priyanka, remember that two other judges were there other than Chitra alone.

And Greedy??? Well, this is the best part. C'mon, OPEN your eyes. It seems you would request Bill Gates to stop earning as he is already in the top spot in the world's richest... :) Everyone has their own goals. You must learn to respect them or else atleast to keep you mouth shut.(atleast in a public forum)

Just chill out. Lets stop just saying "Unity in diversity" and start living with that in mind. And not just Alka and Roshan are doing good. Shravan and Nithyshree are also awesome.

  12. Congrats Alka on your victory!!! You Deserved it!!
    People,
Music knows no language or state boundary. Do not put in your random influence on this. This is a talent hunt for the next star singer, who will be given so many chances in future movies. It doesnt matter, where the talent comes from.
If such restrictions were put, why would Vijay TV advertise in Kerala and well for the next season they are doing it in Singapore.

Have you ever noticed how she picked up Tamil so fast. We keep complaining here and we cant speak a word of malayalam.

Talent where ever it is will be rewarded!!

  13. Well Done Alka, We knew you would sweep this. And congrats to the other guys who also put up commendable performances.
Rest assured, the future of the playback industry is in safe hands.
The entire music Fraternity salutes these young and upcoming talents - Venkatesh

  16. This is not the platform for alka to show her talent. After achieving limca book of world records, she is trying to win tamizhagathin chella kural title? good joke!!! this is a cruel fate that talents like Shravan/ Ravi despite their strong gramatical knowledge will win only 2nd place. Vandharai( mattum) vazha veikkum tamizh nadu! Saabha kedu!!!

  18. Alka is an excellent singer, no doubt..but she is not a a candidate of this cadre at all. Does she know grammer? Even now i say Shravan is anyday a better singer than alka. where is the musician ship in her? How did alka sing that ivan song, ennai enna seidhai? was she able to cope up with final round of swaras in that song? but shravan had been performing consistently.

  23. Congrats Alka , U deserve it.

I am also a tamilian. I just wanted to say, this is not the place for racism , but the place for talents. Opportunities are wide open. Anyone can prove at any place in this universe .......
Encourage the talents irrespective of racism. Hope, is a competition for age group of 6-15 yrs and where one must run to compete, irrespective of how much one had proved themselves in their fields.

Shrikanth is a child prodigy. We enjoyed his performance, but he had just started his journey and has lot to go about. He had proved for his age, but yet to prove for the title like this and also he is not liable to be a part of finals. He is also a competitor like others.

Public were not loyal to the show, if they were really looking out for talents. But they remained partial, in bringing him 'in' in the wildchild. Why didn't they be loyal to priyanka & srineesha , who had also proved themselves as outstanding singers. Their talents were no way lesser than shrikanth and others finalists.

In general, everyone had proved for their age. So be loyal to urselves, irrespective of age group and C solely where the extraordinary talent is.............

  25. Many congras Alka. She truly deserves this title.
ofcourse all the top 25 childern's are great super singers. Friends please don't abuse their talent. Grown people who discriminated their state wise are not real enjoyer's of music. Please don't corrupt the young talented mind.

Will these people will stay away where their talente is encouraged.

why people want to critisise chitra for encouraging alka?. Will u not encourage talented people for an improvised out put?.

ofcourse priyanaka, srinisha shravan, srikantha, roshan all received good prizes.

NO body said others sung bad, throughout performance wise alka had a steady and smooth singing so she deserve it.

  28. Alka might be a good singer of film songs and she has learned the words. OK good. But she does not understand the meaning of those words, and cannot express the way it should be. Take the case of Nithyashree, Shravan, Srinisha etc. They understands what they are singing, and hence able to stress where they should based on the mood or scenario, and also the kids from Tamizhnad have classical background unlike Alka, who is good at learning the song with the scripts written in malayalam. And also the information given by airtel about Alka is wrong. They have put all fake news about her achievements, and also her age. She is something around 15-16 years. As for the voice is concerned Sowmya's was very good, but the so called judges ensured that she is removed at the earliest, so that there is less competition for Alka. Anyway this program started with one aim, that is to make Alka win. So , we should have nothing to blame, except the parents of Tamil kids who sent them to participate in this program knowing the intentions of vijay TV and its background very well. Alka might have won this prize, but the film directors and producers are not going to accept Alka as a singer, just because mallu based Vijay TV wanted to promote their persons.

I wish that Jaya TV and Sun start something like this so that the candidates get a fair chance.

  29. Dear Karps I agree with your views. But I couldn't digest that Brahmins dominate the stage shows. Brahmins can live anywhere in India adopting the state language and dominate. Whereas in Tamilnadu we people unknowingly support Tamil speaking Brahmins thinking that they are Tamils. So instead of selecting a Tamil speaking Brahmin, Vijay TV rightly selected Alka for the winner. Also No Tamil can seperate Malayalees as a distinct race. They are also our Tamil blood.
